Scarelt Letter In the novel the Scarlet Letter by Nathaniel Hawthorne a major theme that is addressed is revenge. The main counterbalance is between the characters Reverend Dimmsedale and Roger Chillingsworth. The problem that surrounds them is that Dimmsedale have a wanton human relationship with Hester Prynne resulting in a baby girl, what is weird is that Chillingsworth comes into townsfolk the day that Hester is sentenced for public humiliation. When Chillingsworth finally speaks he has to help polish up his step- daughter. He then tells Hester not to say anything ab bulge out his neat identity.

Dimmsedale wants to give onward his secret about their relationship scarcely knows it will bring about the downfall of Hester and himself.
